Three Homages, composed by Candice Mowbray, serves as a musical tribute to three eminent guitarists of the twentieth century: Ida Presti of France (1924-1967), Maria Luisa Anido of Argentina (1907-1996), and Luise Walker of Austria (1910-1998). Presti, Anido, and Walker were exceptional guitarists with remarkable careers, performing globally, recording, composing, and earning profound respect and admiration from critics, colleagues, students, and audiences alike.
Designed to spark interest in new listeners and evoke memories and emotions in longtime fans, these pieces are infused with concepts inspired by the guitarists' recordings, repertoire, compositions, and musical styles. The titles are drawn from nicknames mentioned in literature. Although originally commissioned as set pieces for a youth competition, the tribute to Luise Walker is undoubtedly a concert work, and the Anido and Presti pieces contain numerous intriguing and exciting elements for meaningful interpretation. Professional concert performers have expressed enthusiasm for listening to and performing these works.
