Duo Classico is the flute and guitar duet of Susan
Mott and Candice Mowbray. Having performed together for over ten years, the duo has earned featured spots on concert
series at the Washington County Museum of Fine Art, Shenandoah
Conservatory, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music
Series, the Summit Point Library Series, and the MSO Guild. The
duo's musicianship, creativity and professionalism have been noted by
fellow musicians and audiences alike.
Duo Classico's repertoire is quite diverse and includes
modern commissions, French Impressionist selections, arrangements of Spanish guitar classics, and selections spanning 500
years of music.
In
addition to performing concerts, Duo Classico has provided live music
for countless private events. The duo performed wedding ceremonies in
great locations like Rocky Gap Resort, Ceresville Mansion, Ostertag
Vistas, and the PA State Capitol in addition to beautiful gardens at
private residences and historical churches in Maryland, West Virginia,
Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The duo has also been a part of art
gallery receptions, Christmas parties, anniversaries, and graduations.
The duo is honored to be invited to perform for symphony patrons and fundraisers for the
arts.
Flautist Susan Mott earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music
Education from Frostburg State University. She studied flute performance and pedagogy at the Peabody Conservatory of
Music and received instruction from such notable teachers as Britton Johnson and Marc Sparks, both former principal flutists
of the Baltimore Symphony, and Bernard Goldberg of the Pittsburg Symphony. Susan has been flautist and piccoloist of
the Maryland Symphony Orchestra for 17 years and has also performed with the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival Orchestra, the Laurel
Oratorio, the Mercersburg Academy Chamber Orchestra, the National Flute Choir, the MSO String Quartet, the Hagerstown Municipal
Band, and numerous other small ensembles.
Susan has a very active private flute studio in her home as
well as a position with the Washington County Board of Education as an instrumental music teacher in elementary schools. She
has also taught for the St. James School and is on staff with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra as the Educational Booking Agent
for all ensembles, planning and scheduling 50-60 educational ensemble concerts per year including the Symphony Saturdays programs
in both Washington and Alleghany Counties, the MSO Holiday Brass, the Kinder Konzerts at Hagerstown Community College and
approximately 40 educational concerts and masterclasses in the public schools. Susan is actively engaged in freelance
work in Western Maryland with many chamber ensembles performing recitals, weddings, receptions, and many other events.
Guitarist Candice Mowbray is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts and earned a Master of Music degree in
guitar performance from Shenandoah Conservatory. She has studied in masterclasses with many of the world's greatest
guitarists including Sharon Isbin, Roland Dyens, Berta Rojas, Ricardo Cobo, and Angel Romero. She has taught music at
Shenandoah Conservatory, Mount St. Mary's University, Shepherd University, Hagerstown Community College, and Frederick Community
