The clarinet and classical guitar duo of Mike Hoover and Candice Mowbray presents a beautiful concert program of diverse and intriguing works that include Alsatian, Armenian, Brazilian, French, and Argentine influences. In addition to repertoire by Ravel, Boutros, Waldteufel, Villa-Lobos and Piazzolla, the duo's program includes “Regrets, Tears, and Blarney”, a three movement work based on Irish and English folk tales, written by Glenn Caluda. Originally composed for flute and guitar, this work has become an audience favorite and the publication of this work as a clarinet and guitar duet was inspired by Hoover's performance.
Duo Claritare gave their formal premiere to a standing room only audience in Bowman Hall at the Washington County Museum of Fine Art in February 2010. An audience of music enthusiasts, colleagues, and press showed an outpouring of praise for the technical musicianship, diverse programming, and depth of expression presented by the duo. One patron in attendance summarized the performance as "absolutely amazing".
